Why Commerce Klaus?

Salesforce Commerce Cloud development has a peculiar split personality. The surrounding JavaScript ecosystem moves quickly, while server-side cartridge code runs with its own module conventions, APIs, and Rhino compatibility constraints.
Generic tooling sees only JavaScript files. SFCC developers see cartridge precedence, module.superModule, Script API classes, metadata-defined attributes, registered hooks, and a deployment target that may reject code long after it was written.
Commerce Klaus exists in that gap.
Platform knowledge belongs in developer tools
The goal is not to make SFCC look exactly like Node.js. That would hide the details that determine whether code works on the platform. Instead, the tools carry SFCC knowledge into familiar workflows:
- ESLint explains compatibility problems while code is being edited.
- TypeScript understands cartridge imports and types generated from project metadata.
- Vite, Vitest, and Babel can load server-side modules locally.
- A shared resolver prevents each integration from inventing its own cartridge semantics.
Each package is useful on its own. Together they shorten the path from writing code to receiving trustworthy feedback.
Practical over theatrical
Klaus is a familiar, down-to-earth German name. In this project it represents the colleague who handles a specific, irritating problem without turning it into a grand reinvention of the platform.
That is the standard for the project: focused packages, explicit constraints, incremental adoption, and behavior backed by tests.
Klaus is here to tame the SFCC Rhino.
The Rhino does not disappear. It simply becomes easier to work with.
